Reserve Wines

The Donaldson Family traces its Kiwi roots back about 1000 years. In keeping with this we have chosen to honour these special New Zealand wines with an ancestral name.

Depending on the vintage a reserve wine is made from exclusively Marlborough or Waipara fruit. This is a selection of the best parcels of contract fruit from either region.

This is a selection of our best Marlborough Pinot. In most years the fruit is likely to come from vineyards on the gentle clay slopes at the south end of the Brancott valley. These vineyards are known for producing rich, ripe fruit flavours whilst retaining the vibrancy and finesse typical of Marlborough. The wine has been handled in the traditional manner with an extended maceration of the whole berries in small vats. After 18 months ageing in French oak barriques the various components are assessed for final selection.

Select parcels of Waipara Valley fruit are used to produce this powerful, yet refined, Pinot Noir. The wine typically displays classic black cherry fruit with earthy, savoury overtones and the spice for which Waipara Valley Pinot has become celebrated for. The wine is made in the traditional manner as with the TIPINUI SELECTION.
