Sauvignon Blanc 2009

This was an ideal growing season for sauvignon blanc as a warm spring and summer were followed by a long, dry autumn, which produced extra ripening, while at the same time allowing the grapes to retain good natural acidity.  Moderate crop levels has ensured the wine has good concentration.

After picking, the berries were gently pressed and the juice was allowed to settle to clarify.  This clear portion was then fermented at low temperatures to help it retain its vibrant fruity characters.

This wine is like a bowl of ripe fruits on a bed of freshly picked herbs.  The bouquet and flavour suggest passion-fruit, melon, gooseberries and citrus fruits.  These are underlain with a hint of crushed thyme and mint and supported by a whiff of gun-flint complexity.  While generously mouth-filling, it has a spine of tangy minerality and grapefruity acidity, keeping it lively and fresh and drawing out its length.
